Wine Country Inn Gifts Restored Photo Images To Museum

The owners of Wine Country Inn, a new 80-room boutique hotel in Palisade. believe that looking to the future should be firmly rooted in appreciating the past. That’s why the Tally family is donating electronically restored images of historic local photographs to the Museum of Western Colorado.

Valued at an estimated $20,000 by Cobb & Assoc., who handled the restoration of photos loaned by the Grand Junction museum, the restored 1900-era Palisade pictures were enlarged, framed and hung throughout the hotel. The electronic media files will be presented to museum curators at a celebration from 10 to 11 am, Thursday, July 23, in the Lobby of the hotel. The public is invited. Following the presentation, guests can view the photos in public areas as well as guest rooms. Lemonade and cookies will be served in the Tasting Room.

“We can thank our neighbor Bill Floryancic, whose passion for documenting the history of Palisade launched this project. He approached us before we even broke ground about the importance of honoring the past,” explains owner Richard Tally.

“He was right and the interest in the Victorian period photos of Palisade has created much interest and good will from our guests and local residents alike."

“We also want to thank Michael Menard and the Museum of Western Colorado for his cooperation and help,” said Tally. He also praised Jeff Ham, the Cobb graphic artist who painstakingly restored the photos, for his dedication and “labor of love” on the project.

“It was a pleasure working with the Wine Country Inn to restore and produce copies of the Museum’s early Palisade Photographs for display at the Inn,” comments Curator Menard. “The Museum of Western Colorado is very appreciative to have such supporters as Jean and Richard Tally to assist the Museum in preserving and promoting the history of the Grand Valley.”

The results are a testament to the possibilities of creating a legacy for future generations when the private and public sectors work together, Tally adds.

Winery, Boutique Hotel Pair Up for Gourmet Winemaker’s Dinner

Call it a unique pairing of Front Range wine with Western Slope hospitality. During Colorado Mountain Wine Fest, Denver-based Balistreri Vineyards and the Palisade-based Wine Country Inn will team up Saturday, September 20, for a gourmet winemaker’s dinner during Colorado Mountain Wine Fest.

Enjoy five food stations, each paired with wines from the Balistreri Vineyards, then top it all off at the dessert station with a choice of Filled Crepe, Chocolate Mousse Martini or Palisade Peach Cobbler served with Balistreri Port or Cherry Wine.

The event offers a great opportunity to check out the newest place to stay in Palisade, and to meet the Balistreri and Tally families who head up the winery and hotel, respectively.

A unique “buffet station” wine dinner features Balistreri wine pairings at each station, with seating inside the Vineyard Ballroom and outside on the poolside patio.

Tickets cost $125 per person and can be purchased by calling 1-888-855-8330.

Wine Fest is the largest Colorado wine festival in the state, with over 40 wineries in attendance. Executive Chef David Kassera, who heads the Wine Country Inn Catering Department, designed the menu that compliments the wine selections.

The dinner menu runs as follows:
* An Antipasto Course featuring olives, peppers, olive oils and crostini.
* The Salad Course, paired with Chardonnay, will spotlight flakes of maple-smoked Salmon tossed with mixed baby lettuce, Craisins, candied walnuts, and shaved Parmesan Reggiano cheese, then drizzled with pomegranate vinaigrette.
* The Poultry Course, paired with Sangiovese, will consist of individual thin crust pizzas topped with Duck Breast grilled outdoors and topped with julienne of roasted bell peppers, fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, sun dried tomatoes, sliced grilled duck breast and extra virgin olive oil.
* The Pasta Course, paired with Syrah, highlights Cavatappi with Braised Beef Short Rib Ragu. Roasted tomatoes, garlic and bell peppers are gently simmered with boneless short ribs of beef for concentrated flavors, then tossed with corkscrew pasta.
* The Game Course, paired with Cabernet Franc, will center around Chef Carved Buffalo Brisket. Specially selected spices are gently rubbed into buffalo brisket and marinated overnight to bring out the unique flavor of this full-bodied cut. Cooked by open flame then slowly braised to melt in your mouth tenderness, the bison will be served on cornbread with baked bean cassoulet.
* Finally, the Dessert Course, paired with Cherry wine and Port, will offer a Crepe station with apricot, cherry, or chocolate mascarpone filling, as well as Chocolate Mousse Martini or Palisade Peach Cobbler

Welcome Democratic Delegates. Now How About A Glass of Wine?

Aahhh...if only we could help Biden imbibe, or Obama unwind, we have the perfect location for the Democratic ticket to do both. What better way for Democrats to let their hair down after the convention than to relax in our vineyards? In fact, we've been trying to do just that for at least six months. Here's how our homespun campaign evolved for the DNC to come and experience Colorado's Wine Country.

We posted on the DNC Forums all the way back in February. Our post can be found at:
http://www.denverdnc2008.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=220

On our main page at http://www.coloradowinecountryinn.com, we point out that Palisade, Colorado, is only a half tank of gas away from Denver.

-Finally, we have a print ad getting handed out to every delegate in a special packet.

Hopefully, these things will make a difference for weary convention goers who wish to experience a unique slice of Colorado before heading home.

Author Eugenia Bone Visits Hotel

We have been in e-mail contact with author Eugenia Bone, who wrote, At Mesa's Edge: Cooking and Ranching in Colorado's North Fork Valley. As Googlebooks, puts it "Eugenia Bone was perfectly happy with her life as a New York City food writer, but she knew that her husband, a transplanted westerner, was filled with a discontent he couldn't explain. So when he returned from a fishing trip in the Rockies one day and announced that he wanted to buy a forty-five-acre ranch in Crawford, Colorado (population 255), she reluctantly said yes."

She's now in love with the Western Slope, developed a passion for gardening, and if we're not mistaken, just ribboned at the Delta County Fair in several competitions, including award winning oregano, parsley, and tarragon:

http://www.deltacountyindependent.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3755&Itemid=0

(How many Eugenia Bones in Crawford can there be?).

Long story short, we invited her for a visit to the inn, but imagine our surprise when when she said she had already visited and toured the property! We don't know what this all means, other than it possesses a certain cool factor about it.

We're Now On Facebook

We've decided to jump on the whole social networking bandwagon. The hotel can now be found in two great places on Facebook. Just hop on over to our business profile, Colorado Wine Country Inn, at:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Palisade-CO/Colorado-Wine-Country-Inn/22051699830?ref=ts

--Or you can join our Facebook group, "Friends of the Wine Country Inn" at:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=23212327487&ref=ts

Forgive us if we're wrong, but you can view the business listing without being a member, while Facebook may ask you to join up to join the group. Soon you'll be poking, slapping, tickling your fellow wine lovers. If you don't know what that means, maybe you should join! (it's not as risque as it sounds). Plus, it's free!

These efforts complement our MySpace Listing, at:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=228331405

Which doesn't require any membership to view, but you will have to be a member to join our circle of friends.

A Dream Comes To Life!

The new 80-room Wine Country Inn in the vineyards of Palisade, Colorado is now open!

Opening a new 80-room Wine Country Inn in the vineyards of Palisade, Colorado, began with an invitation from Steve Smith, owner of Grande River Vineyards, to build a hotel somewhere near his winery.

After extensive touring in California’s wine country, Richard and Jean Tally came home with a wealth of photos, ideas and hope. But the timing was not right, so the plan was put on the back burner for a decade. Over the years, the Tallys continued to travel and dream.

“There were so many good ideas everywhere we went, we took notes, talked to people and made lots of pictures,” explains Richard. “We were especially impressed with the Summer Wood Inn (formerly the Arbor Inn) and Justin Winery in Paso Robles, the new Santa Ynez Inn and Gainey Winery in Santa Ynez, Fess Parker’s Inn and winery in Los Olivos and the Cheshire Cat Bed and Breakfast in Santa Barbara.”

Hazel Miller, R&B Legend Sings Next Door

Hazel Miller wowed 'em during Peach Fest at Grande River Vineyards. She has inspired a passionate following of regulars that routinely trek over the Continental Divide to hear Hazel sing at various Western Slope festivals. She told the Free Press that, “We don’t come to ‘shock & awe’ ... we want you to lose yourself for a night, and if we’re not doing that we haven’t done our job.”
